1. Genre characteristics - does the music video go with the genre conventions, or does it have its own style.
2. The relationship between the visuals that we see on screen and the lyrics that are being sung - are the visuals and the lyrics contrapuntal to each other or do they contemplate each other well.
3. The relationship between the visuals on screen and the music - are the viewers kept wanting to see what happens by the way the editing has been done and the changes of cosumes and locations.
4. The need to sell the artist - the way the artist is illistrated to the audience.
5. Intertextuality - definition: a reference within a film/music video to another film, media product, work of literature or piece of art. In music videos looking for dance rountines that have been used by other artists in the past and also film references.
6. Voyeurism - definition: looking at someone without them knowing. In music videos we may be objectified (looking at something like an object) to look at the artist as an object then a person. Also how the shots are placed and the angle of the shots could make the audience look at the artist in a different way.
In this powerpoint, we have analysed Goodwin's six points in two music videos that are both by the same artist. This got us to think more about what is put into music videos and why.
