Feedback Sheet
We received feedback for our final music video from all the groups in our
class. When all feedback was reviewed, we spotted a number of things:
- There is a clear non-linear editing with no narrative
- There are lots of different shots used, however at times the same shot
used too much
- There was editing on the beat, but towards the end it slows down and
does look as effective
- At times the lip syncing was out of sync
- The star persona was well illustrated and understood
- Overall the music video was very good
With all the
feedback we received, we are very happy with the final result and feedback received
from it. Things that we would next time spend more time on would be making sure
that everything is in sync and when filming get a wide of shots and movements
of the same part of the song so there is more footage to be able to cut into
and not have to use the same footage in the video all the time.

Review of Monday's lesson
- Evaluated other groups music videos and gave them feedback
This gave us insight to what the other groups had been producing and how they have approached the conventions & we could use similar techniques towards our video if we were given he time to improve it.
- Carried on editing the digipak
We completely changed one of the ideas for one of the digipak images, because we didn't think it matched the effect we were expecting to get across.
- We converted our music video and uploaded it to YouTube and then embed it to the blog for others to access it and give us feedback.

Final idea for magazine cover
Mid shot of artist

- We will edit this photo to emphasise the shadows and the colours on the dress.
- This would be ideal for a magazine cover, because it is the right size for the cover and will fit weel (instead of it looking stretched)
- It also follows the pop conventions i.e in comparison with other pop artist magazine covers
For example...

- We like how the scenery in the background is blurred but it still adds colour to image.
- We like how her face is highlighted and stands out - we would use this on our picture because at the moment, her face and her features aren't very visible.

Magazine adverts
This is a powerpoint that is looking at magazine adverts for albums. Our task is to create a magazine advert for our digi-pack, however this gives us an idea at the style and look of what needs to be on the advert.

Task 3: Socail Media
Cheryl Cole's Facebook page
This page
dates Cheryl Cole back to when she joined Facebook, and it's showing everything
that's happened since becoming famous. We see specific evidence of her own
advertisement i.e. New book out, a new song etc..
This post
is advertising her new calendar, and it shows some comments and if people have
liked it or not.
Here is
another example of her advertising a place she's going to show up at and be
nominated for an award.
Both are
examples of the singer advertising her life, what's happening and that she
doesn't just sell music. This is showing fans that Cheryl is a so called
'Hollywood' icon for fans to read gossip about, rave about new books and chat
shows, all to advertise her star persona, so that the audience become
interested in her as a star so could come to become curious about her music.
Further use that the star is trying to reach out to her fan beyond her music is
through other advertisement i.e. interviews, on the cover of magazines, talk
shows etc..
An example
of Cheryl advertising her new album in an interview on a website.
An interview of Cheryl and Allen Carr talking about her and what's going
on in her life at the moment and what her fans are to expect.
We also see Cheryl Cole in specific adverts like:
Cheryl is used in an advert here to sell some lip gloss and the advert
mentions her, with backstage footage, and what colour she's even
wearing.
All these other types of advertising for Cheryl Cole, shows fans that
she's created a star persona of a 'good girl' type who is very open and her
face is now something than can market products for L' oreal Paris. This shows
that she is trying to connect to the audience by showing up in adverts, famous
chat shows, interviews etc... to communicate their star persona.
How I would use Facebook and other social sites to increase viewers for
my music video.
Some examples of what my Facebook page might look like:
Pixie
Lott
These are
two examples of how I would present my own star, using certain apps to easily
buy my Album. Appointing the artist the latest update of Facebook, also being
able to sign up to her page as well having short cuts to her videos would be a
good idea to sell her music. However I might also consider having other social
networks like Twitter.
Filming on Thursday Evening
Location 1: Jesus Green
We arrived at out first location at Jesus Green at about 5pm. This is later then we had hoped to as a group. This was due to Anissia having a lesson until 4.10 and then having to pick up the equipment and then getting the bus to town and walking to locaiton. Once there we got on with filming.
What went wrong?
- Once at the location the sun was setting so was getting dark quick, and we only had one large torch. This meant that we had to experiment with the torch and exposure on the camera to get the image we wanted.
- There was an issue raised between the group that the footage that we were getting would be very dark and look completely different once in the video with our other footage where it was lighter. To try and sort this issue we used the torch as much as we could to light up the artist and the location we were in. Also in the editing process we will work on the colour correction of the footage.
What went well?
- We spent as much time as needed at the location to make sure we had all the shots that we needed.
- We worked well as a group, with everyone being able to film and hold the light. This meant that we got things done quickier and didn't fuss in the cold.
What we could have improved on?
- Being aware of the sun set times and making a plan of what we would do at certain times before it got too dark.
- Having speakers or a device to make the music louder. We had the dong playing on Emma's iphone however, it wasn't very loud and on the footage at times becasue Grace is quite far away from the camera we cannot hear the music.
Location 2: Brick Wall
We then walked to our next location this was to be at a brick wall down Eden Street. However, on the walk from Jesus Green we found a small brick wall area on the corner of Jesus Lane.

The first image is the route that we took from Jesus Green to the brick wall location that we found. The second image is the brick wall! And finally the last image is the location of the brick wall. What went wrong?
- The location of the wall was very public with cars and buses going past all the time, so the sound level was very high at all times. Also it was a public walkway which meant people were walking past and we would have to stop filming to let them past and at times when we were filming they would just walk through the shot.
What went well?
- The lighting at this location was better and brighter. We had the street lights and the lights from the cars and buses that lit up the shots.
- It was a nice small area to film!
What we could have improved on?
-
Location 3: Grand Arcade Car Park
Our final location was the car park in Grand Arcade. We arrived at the location at about 5.50 and started to film at 6pm.
What went wrong?
- We were hoping to use the lift to have Grace in it and when it opens she is singing. However we could not do this because the lift was out of order and the other lift in the Grand Arcade had a mirror at the back and when filming we would be in the shots.
What went well?
- The lighting at the location was very good and we didn't have to use the torch.
- As the level that we were on there were not many cars so we could use a large space. This allowed us to get lots of different shots and angles of Grace.
What we could have imporved on?
- More thought into the costume that Grace was going to wear. The dress was very nice however was very dark.

Thursdays lesson
Today we've used the green screen for the leaf overlays in the music video as the previous footage was no to our standards. We are continuing with the editing and are uploading the footage we've shot with the leaf's. Moreover Anissia and Grace have continued with the powerpoint on the photos for the ancillary products.
